Copeia simplifies the prescription of medical cannabis for doctors and patients alike

A Revolutionary Web App Tailored to Individual Patient’s Needs

Today many doctors in Germany are reluctant to prescribe medical cannabis due to unwieldy administration processes and the time and effort involved in submitting insurance claims even though medical cannabis would prove beneficial in relieving many patients’ symptoms.

Copeia's new interactive questionnaire facilitates the prescription of cannabis therapy tailored to individual patients’ needs. We make the completion of health insurance claims for cannabis therapy easier than ever before, removing much of the frustration and effort involved for patients and doctors today.

The application was released in June, by Copeia and can be accessed on the Copeia website, free of charge.

“Together with medical experts and a team of product designers and software developers, Copeia has developed an innovative tool to support the reimbursement process for medical cannabis.

Copeia's web app closes a gap in the healthcare system and saves patients and medical staff valuable time when applying for health insurance reimbursement for medical cannabis in Germany.”

Intermedix and Copeia Collaboration

Integrated with intermedix’s electronic health record solutions, Copeia provides valuable information to medical staff when prescribing medical cannabis

In July 2021, Copeia partnered with intermedix. Intermedix Deutschland GmbH is a subsidiary of the global software group CompuGroup Medical SE & Co. KGaA.

An expert in medical and pharmaceutical software, intermedix puts helpful product information into the hands of more than 65,000 resident German doctors.

When making diagnoses and therapy decisions for patients, the Copeia’s application is only one click away from the doctor's main workflow. Copeia’s application contains supporting information and assistance for prescriptions, as well as detailed information on individual cannabis products to optimally support patient-specific cannabis therapy.

"We are pleased to give doctors even better access to our software, offering patient-specific support and to simplify the reimbursement process of cannabis-based medication — flowers, extracts, dronabinol, and other cannabis-based therapeutics."

Garvin Hirt, Co-Founder and Product Manager, Copeia

“Our goal is to support healthcare professionals where information is needed quickly and easily in order to achieve the optimal diagnosis and therapy for patients. We attach great importance to the fact that the doctor receives relevant information for him at the right time."

Copeia's Peer Patient Program

In July 2021, Copeia launched its own peer patient program together with the Association Cannabis as Medicine(ACM) and their patient association, the self-help network Cannabis as Medicine (SCM).

This is an exchange program for medical cannabis patients, who not only have (or had) the same condition but who are also occupied with the same fears and questions until they found their way of therapy.

Through regular webinars, we train peer patients in the use of the Copeia web app to actively support other patients in applying for cannabis therapy.

“As one of the first 1000 patients who had to fight for cannabis as a medicine in Germany, I know how tedious it is to apply for reimbursement without an optimized application tool. As I like to help other patients gain their right to this medicine, I very much welcome the cooperation with Copeia "

Angelika Lingelbach, cannabis patient and ACM patient consultant

ACM has been established since 1997. From its inception, it has organized doctors, pharmacists, patients, healthcare professionals, lawyers, and other interested parties. The self-help network, SCM, has existed as part of ACM, representing the interests of cannabis patients in Germany since 2006.

Along with its trained patient counsellors, local self-help groups and a patient hotline, the Association for Cannabis as Medicine and its patient self-help network is Germany’s leading centre for people seeking advice on medical cannabis use.

“The complex requirements involved in applying for medical cannabis therapy and the lack of access to focused workflows and assistive technology is a major hurdle for patients. We are pleased to include the ACM and the SCM Patient Association in the Copeia Peer Patient Program to jointly develop further patient-focused digital applications that will ultimately help medical cannabis patients across Germany."
